The Best Weekend UK Breaks
So, what UK city breaks are the best? There are 76 cities in the UK, 55 of them are in England, and eight are in Scotland, with Seven in Wales, and Six in Northern Ireland.
For weekend romantic UK city breaks, Edinburgh is a great choice. But, if you are looking for a fun UK Break then Manchester and London are the perfect choices.
Edinburgh
Edinburgh is a beautiful UK city that is perfect for a romantic weekend away. If you have never visited Edinburgh then you need to put it on your bucket list. When you visit Edinburgh, it’s hard not to fall in love with one of the most admired UK cities.
I have named the historic city of Edinburgh as the best UK city for a romantic getaway due to everything it has to offer. It is full of life, with amazing nightlife, romance, theatres, restaurants, and culture, what is there not to love?
Edinburgh is the perfect UK city break. It is easy to get to by train but can be a bit of a trek if you are driving. But, no matter how you are travelling to the best UK city, it will be worth your while.
If you are looking for a weekend away in Edinburgh then you are not going to see everything at once. And that is why lots of people who visit Edinburgh keep coming back.
The old town of Edinburgh is magical. There are so many old buildings to see and one of the top tourist attractions that you must visit during your long UK weekend break is Edinburgh Castle. It is one of the most photographed castles in the world.
The Royal Mile which connects Edinburgh Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse is where you can find the Scottish Parliament. There are lots of bars, and restaurants to enjoy on your walk up to the castle.

York
A York weekend break is the perfect choice for a weekend UK Break. Even if you are not looking for a weekend away, and if you are on holiday in Scarborough, then you need to go up the road and visit York, it is a magical place.
There is a good reason why York has come second on my list of the best UK city breaks, and that is because of the great nightlife, lots of things to do, and the romantic restaurants on offer.
York is a culture-rich city with lots of history. It has lots of museums and historic buildings if that is your type of thing. It has a theatre that attracts top acts from around the country including Jimmy Carr.
There are lots of things to do in York which include a visit to the theatre and climbing the top of the bell tower to see the magical views over the city.
If you love trains then a visit to the National Railway Museum is a must, or you may like the Yorkshire Air Museum. Another great thing to do in York is a sightseeing cruise. No matter what you like, York has it all.
Manchester
If you are looking for the best UK City break where you can have non-stop fun, then Manchester has to be the weekend city break for you.
Manchester is an amazing place to visit. It has everything from great nightlife, music, and comedy venues, to two or if you ask some people one great football team and some of the best restaurants in the country.
There are hotels in Manchester to suit all different budgets, and if you are planning a UK city break to Manchester, then make sure you visit China Town for a great meal.
There are lots of great things to do in Manchester. If you like museums then you will find plenty of them, or if you want to see a great show, then you have some of the best theatres with some of the best shows. There are lots of great bars in Manchester, and Canal street is a must.
Manchester offers so much for people looking for Weekend UK breaks.
Liverpool
With so many great UK city breaks on offer; it can be hard to choose which one to visit first. But Liverpool is one you should include on your list. No matter if you are looking for a cheap weekend getaway with the lads, or you are looking for a romantic UK city break, Liverpool has it all.
Liverpool, which is the home to the Beatles has some great places to stay and some amazing places to eat. It has become one of the best UK cities for a fun weekend away.
A lot of people associate Liverpool with the Beatles, but it has more than that on offer. The Royal Albert Docks is a great place to visit, and Liverpool Cathedral is a must. It does not matter if you are religious, it is an amazing Cathedral.
If shopping is your thing then Liverpool has all the big names as well as unique and independent shops. But more importantly, Liverpool comes alive at night.
Liverpool has some of the best bars in the country and some of the best restaurants on offer. I would recommend a visit to Panoramic 34; it has the best views and is one of the highest restaurants in the country.

Chester
Chester is a great UK city break for romance and fun. It is not too far away from Liverpool and Manchester and is easy to get to by train. Chester may not be one of the biggest cities in the country, but with everything it has on offer, it deserves its place as one of the best city break UK has on offer.
Chester with its great nightlife attracts people of different ages. If you are looking for romantic restaurants then you will find lots of them in Chester.
There are lots of great things to do in Chester during the day and at night. One of the most popular tourist attractions is Chester Zoo. Many believe Chester Zoo to be one of the best zoos in the country. A great place to visit is the Blue Planet Aquarium.
Brighton
Brighton is not just one of the best seaside destinations in the UK, it is also one of the best UK city breaks. You can do as much or as little as you want in Brighton. Some say it has become one of the best spots for a Hen and Stag party.
With so much fun on offer in Brighton, don’t be surprised if you need another break when you get home.
Brighton has a great beach to relax on and a great pier. If you love fairground rides then you will love Brighton, or if you want to visit the arcades, then there are lots of them. And when you have finished having fun, then why not grab yourself a bag of fish and chips?
Like Manchester and Liverpool, Brighton comes alive in the evening. There are lots of bars to choose from and some great restaurants.
Lincoln
A great UK city break is Lincoln. If you can, go to Lincoln at Christmas and experience the Christmas market.
Lincoln may not be your top choice for a UK weekend break, but that is down to the lack of information on how great Lincoln is. When I say to people that Lincoln is one of the best UK city breaks and they should try it, they normally pull their faces. But, it is a great and affordable weekend away with lots of things to do.

There are lots of things to do in Lincoln during the day and at night. Lincoln is a great place for shopping and has some amazing cafes. As most UK cities do, Lincoln comes alive at night.

Sheffield
Sheffield is another UK break destination that many people don’t think about, but that needs to change. It is a vibrant city that has lots on offer during the day and night.
I do have a pet hate about Sheffield and that is the one-way system that it has. It can be a bit hard driving around Sheffield and at times the traffic is a bit heavy. But it is a wonderful place to visit and a great place for a weekend break.
What I love to do when I visit Sheffield for a cheap weekend break is to visit the theatre. I have seen some great shows and concerts in Sheffield. As well as great theatres, it also has great comedy shows around the city.
If you are looking for a great restaurant, then Sheffield has lots of them.
Bath
Bath is one of my favourite UK weekend breaks. It screams romance. The romantic city has been home to some popular TV shows. It is also home to the famous Roman baths.
The popular UK city is filled with impressive architecture, with Pulteney Bridge being one of them. If you love architecture then you must visit the Royal Crescent. You will see 30 terraced houses that are Grade I listed.
Bath is one of those places that is perfect not just for a romantic weekend away, but also a place to ask a loved one to marry you.
There are lots of great places to stay in Bath, and there are lots of great bars and restaurants. With so much going on, it’s no wonder why Bath is on our list as one of the best city breaks in the UK.
