Manchester has some of the best restaurants in the country, and that includes the best Chinese restaurants. With so many great places to eat, you don’t have to travel far to find a local Chinese restaurant in Manchester. They are spread everywhere from Chorlton, Stretford, to Manchester Chinatown. But it was not always like that.
What I love about Manchester is China Town, where you will find some amazing Chinese food. You don’t have to travel to the city centre of Manchester to experience amazing Chinese food, there are lots of local Chinese restaurants in Manchester where the quality of the food is just as amazing as in China Town.
Although there are lots of places to have a Chinese in Manchester, as mentioned, my favourite place to eat Chinese food and for a great night out is Manchester Chinatown. There is something very special about having a great meal in a China Town restaurant. It is the full experience when you visit Manchester Chinatown, and there are lots of things to do, even a night out at a casino.

The first Manchester Chinese Restaurant opened in 1948, just a few years after the second world war. The Chinese Manchester restaurant was called Ping Hong, and it was situated on Mosley Street. With the huge success of the restaurant, over the following decade, another 16 local Chinese restaurants opened.
The 1970s was an exciting time for the Manchester Chinese restaurant scene with some amazing new Chinese restaurants opening. Those Chinese restaurants included Charlie Chans which opened in 1973 and one that I was a frequent visitor to, and at the time I thought it was the best Chinese restaurant in Manchester. The Woo Sang which opened in 1976 was another popular place to eat a Chinse in Manchester, while The Little Yang which opened in 1978 helped to catapult the Manchester Chinese scene with many believing that it was now the best Chinse restaurant in Manchester.

When I tell people that Manchester Chinatown was not completed until 1987, they are shocked. Many believe that China Town restaurants have been there since the early fifties, making China Town what it is today, but no.
Manchester Chinatown has now become one of the biggest attractions in the centre of Manchester with people coming from all over to taste the wonderful Chinese food. A small building called The Guardian Telephone Exchange which was built in the 50s sits on an entrance of a network of underground tunnels that are 4 miles long. The tunnels were built in case of a nuclear attack where officials and workers would go in a tragic event.

It is a great place to have a Chinese in Manchester when taking a break from work or a special night out. They also cater for private parties for special occasions.

One of the best Chinese Restaurants is located in Manchester Chinatown. It is called Red Chilli, which I have to admit is an unusual name, and not sure why it is named that. However, it is an amazing place to visit where you can experience some of the best Chinese food in Manchester.
Red Chilli comprises of Beijing specialities along with Fiery Szechuan dishes. They offer some amazing dishes. One word of warning, if you are not used to spicy food, then expect a chillie rush.

Blue Eyed Panda, Ancoats
The Blue Eyed Panda Chinese restaurant, which is located on Jersey Street, Ancoats, started life as a takeaway. Now, it is a popular Chinese restaurant in Manchester which is more modern than most.
It provides delicious Cantonese dishes such as honey-glazed roast char siu pork and Szechuan staples such as hot poached beef in chilli oil.
What I loved about the Blue Eyed Panda dishes were the soup dumplings. My other favourites were the salt and pepper chicken and crispy chili beef.

As mentioned, some of the best Chinese restaurants in Manchester are located in China Town. Happy Seasons is one of those restaurants.
It is a small, simple authentic Chinese restaurant that was established in 1982.You can expect some of the best authentic Cantonese cuisine in Manchester. They use locally sourced produces which are prepared by experienced chefs.
Due to the great Chinese food on offer, and its affordability, Happy Seasons is one of the busiest Chinese restaurants in Chinatown, Manchester. During its busiest periods, you will see people queuing. It can cater for 60 people, so it is not the biggest Chinese restaurant in Manchester.
