About Cleethorpes Pier

Cleethorpes pier in Lincolnshire

As mentioned, Cleethorpes Beach has its own pier. Cleethorpes Pier was opened by Mr. Grant Thorold of Weelsby in 1873. Cleethorpes Pier was 370 metres long and had a concert hall at the end which could hold 800 people. Sadly, in 1903 the popular concert hall was destroyed by a fire.

During World War Two, Cleethorpes pier was shortened to 335ft due to fears that the Germans could land on the pier. The idea was, after the war Cleethorpes would be extended to its original length, but that sadly did not happen due to the cost of restoring the pier.
