Liverpool was once a thriving home to industry, but now it has become an important tourist destination and a vibrant city. It is famous for The Beatles, and Liverpool FC, and attracts more than 76 million visitors a year.

There are lots of fun things to do in Liverpool for people of all ages. And, with a great train service, and coach service, Liverpool is easy to get to if you don’t have a car.

I have put together some of the best things to do in Liverpool for the whole family. As well as great things to do for the whole family, I have also put some fun things to do in Liverpool for date nights and couples. Breakout Liverpool

If you are looking for a fun thing to do in Liverpool for you and your friends, then you must visit Breakout Liverpool, which is based at 7-11 Sir Thomas St, Liverpool.

Breakout Liverpool is a unique and fun experience for friends, families, colleagues, or even date nights. Breakout took Manchester by storm and now it has opened in Liverpool and has become one of the best attractions in Liverpool for adult fun.

You work in a small team between 2 and five people and are given clues and puzzles to solve in order to escape the room.

 

Liverpool World Museum

If you love history and looking for one of the best things to do in Liverpool, then how about a visit the Liverpool World Museum. It has existed since 1851 and is one of Liverpool’s biggest museums. Over the years it has been renovated many times to accommodate its growing collection and the increase in visitor numbers.

The Liverpool Museum houses an aquarium and live bug house. It is home to a variety of exotic beasties. The museum is free to visit, making it an ideal location for a day out when looking for free things to do in Liverpool.

 

Spaceport Liverpool

One of the best places to go in Liverpool for fans of out space and space travel is Liverpool’s Spaceport. Liverpool Spaceport which opened in 2005 features different rooms around different themes. These include the solar system and spacepods. Each room has its own hands-on-activities. There is a popular interactive zone with fun activities and game which are based around gravity and light.

Royal Albert Dock Liverpool

The Royal Albert Dock which was once home to ITV This Morning was opened in 1846. There are some amazing Grade I listed buildings to look at. With huge investment, the Royal Albert Dock has now become a vibrant waterfront area that attracts tourist from all over the UK and around the world. There are cafes, restaurants, and gift shops available. Thanks to the huge investment and new recent attractions that includes The Beatles Story and Tate Liverpool, The Royal Albert Dock has become one of the best things to do in Liverpool.

 

The Climbing Hangar

If you have a head for heights, then the best fun thing to do in Liverpool is the Climbing Hangar. It is 1000m2 climbing wall in Liverpool for an adventure not to be forgotten. It does not matter if you are new to climbing or experienced, this is a great activity for you.

Believe it or not, a lot of people go on dates to the Climbing Hangar. Not something I would think of for a date night, but I suppose it’s a different type of date.

 

The Laughterhouse Comedy Club

One of the best fun things to do in Liverpool for you and your mates as well as a great date night is the Laughterhouse Comedy Club. It is a popular comedy club in Liverpool with some saying it is one of the best comedy clubs in the UK. It has been made more famous thanks to Paul Smith, who you can often see on YouTube and TikTok.

The Fenwick Street Comedy hub attracts people from all over the country, and even attracts Paul Smith favourite customers, police officers. The comedy club was famously in the newspapers around the world when it was raided by the police during lockdown as Merseyside Police embarrassingly thought the comedy club was open. Talk about egg on your face Chief Constable.

St George’s Quarter

Liverpool is full of history and architecture, and Liverpool’s St George’s Quarter is a great place to visit to some amazing Victorian architecture, oh and it is also a great place to visit for great shopping, and amazing theatres.

The St George’s Quarter covers an area from the Queensway Tunnel and William Brown Street to Williamson Square, including Lime Street and Queen Square. It boasts some amazing theatres which includes the famous Liverpool Empire

 

The Beatles

You cannot mention a visit to Liverpool without mentioning the biggest pop band to walk the planet, and that is the Beatle’s. A lot of tourists from around the world visit Liverpool, UK, just to see where the Beatles played and hung out.

There are lots of Beatle’s related activated on offer, to many to mention, with new ones opening all the time. Before the Beatles came along, people would ask where is Liverpool? but now thanks to the Beatles, and their amazing music which stands the test of time, everyone knows where Liverpool is.

There is a Beatles statue that was donated by the famous Cavern Club where the Beatles often played. The statue is at the Pier Head. The original Cavern Club closed down, but a replica of the famous club can now be found on Matthew Street.

For Beatles fans visiting the popular city and looking for things to do in Liverpool that is related to the famous four, then there is The Beatles Experience in Albert Dock. It is a little expensive, but it is worth a visit.

There is also a Beatles bus tour that takes you around different areas in Liverpool that is related to the Beatles, which includes Penny Lane, and also Strawberry Fields.

There are lots of places around Liverpool that celebrate The Beatles, so there is lots of opportunity for photographs.

 

Quad Biking

If you love speed, then you will love Quad Biking which is available at the Quad Nation venue in Formby. The attraction is spread of 120 acres of countryside. It is only 30 minutes from the city of Liverpool.

You will be given instructions on how to handle the quad bike. This is a great day out in Liverpool for people who love adventure and want to have a great time. It is also a great place for work events and even date nights.

 

Ferry (a)cross the Mersey

Although The Beatles and Liverpool F.C are known to have helped make Liverpool famous, you cannot think about Liverpool without thinking about the world-famous song “Ferry cross the Mersey.” By Gerry and the Pacemakers.

If you want a great day out in Liverpool, then a trip on the famous Ferry cross the Mersey is just for you. It allows you to enjoy wonderful views including the famous Liverpool’s World Heritage Waterfront. The ferry which takes around 50 minutes.

 

Sefton Park

When visiting Liverpool go and check out Sefton Park. It is in the south of Liverpool and is such a wonderful place to visit.

Sefton Park is a great place to visit in Liverpool when you want to go and relax. It covers 250 acres of beautiful green space with hidden caves and waterfalls. The Victorian Palm House is very impressive.

 

Liverpool Philharmonic

One of the best things to do in Liverpool if you love classical music then you must visit the Liverpool Philharmonic. It is the main venue in Liverpool for classical orchestral performances. They do have other events on including pop and folk music.

Radio City Tower

Liverpool Cathedral

When I visit Liverpool one of the first places I like to visit is the Liverpool Cathedral. It is a place I would often go with my dad. The Liverpool Cathedral is a stunning church and has become the heart of the city.

Some history facts for you about the popular Liverpool attraction. It was built between 1904 and 1978. It is the fifth-largest cathedral in the world, which is very impressive. Another great fact is it has the largest organ. On 25th October 1978, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II attended Liverpool Cathedral for a service of thanksgiving. This was to mark and celebrate the completion of the cathedral.

Liverpool Cathedral has become one of the best things to do in Liverpool for religious people and fans of history and architecture. It is open every day of the year. If you are not religious, or not interested in history or architecture, then you should still visit the cathedral. It is an amazing place to visit.

 

Merseyside Maritime Museum

If you are looking for things to do in Liverpool that are related to maritime, then a trip to the Merseyside Maritime Museum is the perfect option for you.

It is a museum that is dedicated to the rick maritime history of Liverpool. It is based at Albert Dock, the one home to ITV This Morning.

You will learn the important part Liverpool played in Maritime history. There are lots of model ships that the children will love, and there are also full-sized vessels to look at. There is a genuine lifejacket that was worn by a Titanic survivor, and there are also paintings, films, and so much more.

 

Museum of Liverpool

A visit to Liverpool is not complete without a visit to the Museum of Liverpool. It provides you with all the amazing history of Liverpool.

Liverpool has a lot of vibrant history and a visit to Liverpool Museum will help you learn more about the wonderful city. It is a great educational place to take the children and for those that want to learn more about Liverpool.

 

The Cavern Club

Although this is not the original Cavern Club where the Beatles played, it is still an important area in Liverpool to visit and one of the most popular Liverpool tourist attractions.

The original Cavern Club was demolished in the early 80s, and this replica opened in 1984. It has become just like the old Liverpool Cavern Club and important musical venue for the city. And as dedication to the Fab four, there is also a Beatles tribute act that performs here.

 

The Royal Liver Building Clocktower Tour

The Royal Liver Building is one of the most famous Liverpool attractions. It has been featured on many different television shows. It was built between 1908 and 1911 and is now a Grade I listed building. The Royal Liver Building Clocktower was designed by Walter Aubrey Thomas for an insurance company. One of its claims to history is the Royal Liver Building Clocktower was one of the first buildings in the world to be made of reinforced concrete.

A tour of the Royal Liver Building Clocktower will allow you to see amazing views of the city.

 

Visit Anfield – Stadium for Liverpool Football Club

As a Manchester United fan, I would only visit Liverpool Football Club on away games. However, for those that support Liverpool FC, then this is a great place to visit. It has actually become a popular tourist attraction in Liverpool due to Liverpool FC popularity at home and abroad.

Walker Art Gallery

The Walker Art Gallery has become a popular Liverpool place to visit for those that love art. The Walker Art Gallery has a wide range of art on offer from Flemish, Italian, and French Masters from the 14th century to the present day.

 

Liverpool Croxteth Hall

Croxteth Hall is one of the best things to do in Liverpool for people who love old buildings and history.

It is located on the outskirts of Liverpool and is an amazing place to visit. You can visit most of the rooms in Croxteth Hall and see all the original furniture. The amazing Edwardian mansion staircase has been used for multiple wedding photos.

There is also a real working farm at Croxteth Hall. Kids will love the farm as they can get up close with the animals.

This charming Edwardian mansion on the outskirts of Liverpool is well worth taking the time to explore. Highlights of a visit to Croxteth Hall include the chance to see countless rooms filled with furniture and character figures representing both the wealthy owners and their staff. Be sure to strike a pose on the majestic central staircase, popular as a setting for wedding photos.

 

National Waterways Museum

If you have been on the famous River Mersey on your Liverpool visit, then you must take a trip to the National Waterways Museum.

You will find the National Waterways Museum on the banks of the Mersey and the Manchester Ship Canal. It is located at South Pier Road, Ellesmere Port.

It is a fun day out for the whole family. There are lots of displays, historic Victorian-era buildings, and of course amazing boat trips, which are my favourite. Visitors can explore the warehouses, stables, and workers cottages.
