Cleethorpes Pier

Cleethorpes pier in Lincolnshire

The Pier which is on Cleethorpes Seafront is one that locals are very proud of.

Cleethorpes Pier which was built in 1872 has gone through lots of changes over the years. It has been a nightclub as well as other things. But, unlike other piers that have been lost, Cleethorpes Pier is still standing.

When you visit Cleethorpes, the pier is one of the first things that you see. But don’t expect to go on the pier and see lots of arcades like other piers. Today, Cleethorpes Pier is home to a famous fish and chip shop brand.

The Pier in Cleethorpes cost $8,000 to build and was built by Head Wrightson. It was officially opened on August Bank Holiday 1873. Fifteen years later, it was decided to include a concert hall. Sadly, a fire destroyed it in 1903. The pavilion was built in 1906 and still exists to this day.

When Cleethorpes Pier was first opened it was 1200 feet. Today, it is only 355 feet long. The reason why it is much shorter today is due to a decision that was made by the Government during the war. It was decided to remove the middle section of the pier to combat enemy invasion. The pier was supposed to be fully restored after the war but that never happened. The reason was due to the lack of funds and instead the end section of the pier was demolished.

The pier is still a popular Cleethorpes tourist attraction, and even if you don’t want fish and chips, you can still go on the pier and walk to the end of it.

When you have finished at the Cleethorpes cinema, you can then go to one of the Fast Food outlets next door to the cinema, or to the all you can eat Chinese across the road.

Cleethorpes Leisure Centre

If you are looking for things to do in Cleethorpes when it is raining, then a trip to Cleethorpes Leisure Centre is a popular choice.

Children will love the leisure centre. For adults, who don’t want to go for a swim, then they can visit the gym which is located in the same building.

There is a car park at the back of the leisure centre.

Cleethorpes Beach

where is Cleethorpes Beach

If you are looking for free things to do in Cleethorpes, then Cleethorpes Beach should be your first choice. It is a great beach that comes alive in the summer.

During the summer months you can go for a nice swim or paddle. For the kids who don’t want to go for a paddle, then how about the donkey rides that have been featured on TV.

If you don’t want to sit on the sand, then you can hire deck chairs for a modest fee.
